As a family-run company, we love working with kids!
Kids are the backbone of our practice so we take their oral health just as seriously–if not more so–as adults! Even though the teeth of children seem so small, precious, and perfect, they’re still just as vulnerable to decay and infection as those of adults. Indeed, children’s teeth are even more prone to develop cavities—especially between the ages of six and fourteen. At Wauwatosa Family Dental, we see patients of all ages twice a year for regular check-ups and cleanings.
Shaping Your Child’s Dental Health
It may not seem so, but your little one’s first visits to the dentist are incredibly important. While the main focus is preventing decay and taking care of cavities, these initial appointments can shape the way your child feels about the dentist (and overall dental hygiene) for years to come. With his big smile and his kind words (and, yes, sometimes the assistance of Dora the Explorer) Dr. Frost ensures that your child has a positive experience in the dentist’s chair for the rest of his or her life.
Special Services for Young Smiles
To provide extra protection against decay and infection for your little one’s teeth, we offer two trusted solutions: fluoride treatments and dental sealants.
Fluoride is a mineral that plays an important role in the strengthening of tooth enamel—an especially important consideration during your child’s most cavity-prone years. To provide your child’s teeth with the added strength of fluoride, we’ll give them a quick treatment performed alongside their regular checkup and cleaning.
Dental sealants are thin coverings painted directly onto the chewing surface of the back molars. The sealants protect those tricky nooks and crannies from the bacteria buildup that causes decay. The application of a dental sealant is quick, painless, and can provide protection from decay for years to come.
For especially anxious children, or for children undergoing longer procedures, we make a practice of using nitrous oxide. Commonly known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is a mild sedative that helps reduce anxiety and ensures maximum comfort for your little one!
Helping You Help Your Child
During your child’s regular checkup and cleaning, Dr. Frost and his friendly staff will provide parents with important advice on how to help children maintain excellent dental hygiene habits. These tips will help parents to develop vital dental hygiene habits with their babies, toddlers, and older children.
Children of all of ages (and adults for that matter!) should all keep up with the basics of good oral care: brushing our teeth twice daily for two minutes, flossing daily, and visiting the dentist for regular checkups and cleanings.
