Porcelain veneers are quickly becoming the top treatment available in cosmetic dentistry today, and it’s no wonder why: the process of installing veneers is quick and painless, and can correct numerous smile imperfections in one go. So if your teeth are chipped, cracked, misshapen, discolored, or otherwise damaged, you owe it to yourself to find out more about this great alternative offered by Dr. Frost and the team at Wauwatosa Family Dental.
Smile Do-Overs Made Possible
Because porcelain veneers completely cover the front surface of the teeth that are visible when you flash your smile, multiple cosmetic imperfections can be corrected in just one treatment. We repeat: you can have a smile “do-over”! Porcelain veneers make this possible.
Dental veneers can correct a number of issues, including:
- Teeth that appear to be too short, wide, or pointy
- Stained or discolored teeth that haven’t responded to teeth-whitening treatments
Patients who have otherwise strong teeth and good gum health are excellent candidates for dental veneers. If you’re suffering from gum disease or cavities, be aware that these should be taken care of before undergoing any cosmetic treatment.
The Porcelain Veneer Procedure
With other dentists, the porcelain veneer procedure can span multiple appointments over several weeks. Knowing how busy our patients’ lives are, we decided long ago to put a stop to long and unnecessary appointments. Our state-of-the-art CEREC® technology makes this possible. With CEREC® our porcelain veneers can be created and placed in just one appointment!
To start the process, we’ll give you the chance to thoroughly discuss your smile goals and hopes for porcelain veneers with our fearless leader, Dr. Frost. It’s important to communicate your desires thoroughly in this visit; consider bringing in photographs of smiles you admire, for example. Once Dr. Frost has a clear understanding of what you’re looking for, he will prepare the teeth to receive each veneer. This process involves gently buffing a bit of enamel to make room for the veneer to fit on top. Next, we’ll take digital images of your teeth to be processed with the CEREC® milling machine for the custom creation of your new veneers.
When your veneers are ready, Dr. Frost will check each one to make sure they look, fit and, feel just right. When you give the final approval, they’ll be securely bonded on, letting you walk out of our office with a positively radiant new smile!
Caring For Your New Veneers
Taking care of your dental veneers isn’t complicated. Just as you do in your normal routine, you can keep your veneers healthy by brushing twice daily for two minutes, flossing daily, and visiting Wauwatosa Family Dental twice a year for your check-ups and cleanings.
To make sure your dental veneers stay beautifully intact, athletes and night time tooth-grinders (bruxism sufferers) should invest in a mouthguard to wear during sports or sleep. This small device will reduce heavy blows, pressure, and impact from clenching and grinding, ensuring that your veneers remain as beautiful as they were on the very first day.
